Book Summary

Book Summary:

Great Expectations, a novel written by Charles Dickens was based around a poor, young boy named Philip Pirrip, commonly called Pip. He lives in the marshes of Kent, with his sister and his sister’s husband Joe. One day Pip is taken by his uncle Mr. Pumblechook, to the Satis House, owned by the wealthy and strange old woman named Miss Havisham. Here, Pip meats a young woman named Estella who he soon falls in love with, even though she treats him with little to no respect. He wants to become a wealthy gentleman so that he would be worthy of marrying Estella. Pip is given the chance of a lifetime, becoming a gentleman, with the help from his mystery benefactor and Pip is under the impression that Miss Havisham is his anonymous benefactor. While Pip is in London with his lawyer Jaggers, he learns that Miss Havisham is not his benefactor, and that she actually has nothing to do with him becoming a gentleman.  Later on, Pip returns home because of a tragedy that has happened in his family.  Despite all of the greatness, tragedy, heartbreak and sorrow that occurred in Pip’s life, he remained humble even through his life’s hardships.
