About the Author

Charles Dickens was an amazing writer. He has published many fantastic books along with Great Expectations. He was born on February 7th, 1812 and died on June 9th, 1870. After he witnessed his father being released from prison, he taught himself shorthand, and became a parliamentary reporter. At the young age of twenty four years old, Charles’ career took off, with the publication of the book the Sketches, by Boz in 1836. He was a novelist and a magazine editor which made him have a long run of serialized success. Unfortunately, his fame got the best of him and he lost his family because of it. The fame drew him apart from his wife, Catherine. He then went off with a young actress named Ellen Ternan. He began to get ill which slowed him down but he still continued with his dramatic readings and his fiction. He has produced many great books but the time when he died he left ending of The Mystery of Edwin Drood a mystery.
